“Education is for improving the lives of others and leaving your community and world better than you found it.”
- Marian Wright Edelman.

Miss Yazmine Verdieu, affectionately known as Miss Yaz, was born and raised in West Los Angeles, California. Her favorite part of being an L.A. native is the city’s laid-back weather, vibrant culture, and the hidden gems that remind her of home no matter how much the city evolves.

Miss Yaz earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, with minors in Criminal Justice and Data Analytics, from California State University, Dominguez Hills. During her senior year, she founded Verdieu Learning Center (VLC)—a tutoring and academic-enrichment company dedicated to closing learning gaps and building student confidence through individualized, diagnostic-driven instruction.

She later went on to earn her Master’s degree in Education, specializing in Curriculum Design and Technology, from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Miss Yaz takes pride in designing intentional curriculum that fits the unique needs of every student. She believes deeply that education is never one-size-fits-all, and that every learner deserves an approach tailored to their strengths, challenges, and potential. For Miss Yaz, quality education is defined not by the quantity of instruction, but by the precision, purpose, and personalization behind it.

Her passion for equitable learning and advocacy has led her to powerful platforms, including her own TED Talk, where she shared her message: “No child should have to be resilient to learn.” Through her leadership, Verdieu Learning Center continues to expand its mission of providing high-quality instruction, mentorship, and community impact throughout Los Angeles and beyond.

When she isn’t leading VLC, Miss Yaz enjoys reading, journaling, pilates, going to the gym, and spending time with her family and friends. As a first-generation college graduate and business owner, she continues to embody resilience, purpose, and dedication—proving that when education is nurtured with intention, it becomes a tool for creation and change.
